Title of contribution:
Transformation of fuel and mineral resources into regional development (the analysis of extractive regions of selected developing countries). There are some historical cases of old extractive regions and resource rich countries that successfully used potential of its fuel and mineral resources for development purposes. Now many of them belong to developed countries and serve as good examples to follow for other resource rich countries. The fuel and mineral resources can offer relatively accessible capital that may be used for funding development projects what is very important for developing countries. In this context we can find many countries and regions which economy is based on extraction of these resources. Regarding the costs related to extraction I focus on, in this paper, if it is possible to see some improvements in regional development of extractive regions that would offset or outweight disadvatages joined with extraction. For this purpose I analysed and compared socioeconomic position of the main extractive regions within regional system of each observed country. The analysis is based on available regional statistical data. The subsequent analysis and comparison of socioeconomic positions should bring some light on the question if using resources for development purposes is rather beneficial or not at regional level.
